Sandcastle Contest 1999 via Belmar CamThe annual sandcastle contest is a full-day celebration of the New Jersey beaches, with prizes, food, entertainment, and more. The popular event often draws a large crowd of expert and amateur enthusiasts from around New Jersey and neighboring states. Chuck Feld, one of 40 master sandcastle sculptors in the United States, was on hand at this year's event to offer participants and onlookers a professional demonstration of sand sculpting techniques.

Over 450 teams from around the state, including busloads of children from local day camps, filled Belmar's 18th Avenue Beach from 8AM until 12PM, building unique and innovative sand sculptures, such as an elaborate Christmas scene, a roller coaster castle, a bikini-clad snorkeler, and more. -more- New Jersey Sandcastle Contest Attracts Over 1,500 Participants -
